A greyscale photograph I took of a misty morning in the woods in Yorkshire. The sun is overhead but obscured by the mist. There are five denuded trees from left to right.

The white crow and the robin

In the mist this morning

I saw a white crow

On a post

Arguing with the ghost

Of a robin.

“There is nothing more delicious than carrion”

Said Crow.

“There is nothing better than fighting”

Said Ghost.

Having caught Crow’s black eye

Having caught Ghost’s ire

I walked on across the field

Embarrassed at my own eavesdropping.
